At Nivia Born Boutique Hotel, we’ve discovered a cultural attraction you simply cannot miss. Until 19 January, Es Baluard Museu will be hosting Felices los Hijos de los Tiempos intrascendentes (Happy the Children of Intranscendent Times), an exhibition by Lluís Vecina Rufiandis, that turns the landscapes of Mallorca into a stage for reflecting on the historical memory and transformation that tourism has brought about on the island. An event that combines art, history and social criticism, the perfect enrichment to your city visit.
A narrative that connects history with modernity
The work, by Lluís Vecina Rufiandis, takes us to Sa Coma beach, where two historical events coincide: the landing of Spanish Republic troops in 1936 and its subsequent transformation into a tourist epicentre in the 1980s. Through an immersive facility, the artist exposes how the Franco regime used tourism to wipe out historical memory.
A mosaic panel showing a postcard of the Hotel Royal Mediterráneo is an outstanding piece, accompanied by 500 postcards in homage to the missing troops and a sonorous atmosphere, created by Toni Llull, which connects the past with the present.
In addition to the installation by Vecina Rufiandis, Es Baluard offers three exhibitions that are well worth a visit:
-Carlos Garaicoa: Every utopia passes through the belly (until 5 January 2025).
-AIDS: A silenced history in the Balearic scene (until 12 January 2025).
-Normopathies: Works from the Es Baluard Museu Collection (until 12 January 2025).
