Incorporate sustainable gastronomy into your life by following these simple guidelines

Have you ever stopped to think about your diet? Are you aware of the impact it may be having on your vitality and mood? It has probably crossed your mind on more than one occasion. But we are not here today to speak exclusively about strict healthy diets; we want to reflect with you on a much broader concept: sustainable gastronomy, which of course involves a conscientious attitude towards food and the conservation of the planet.

Our philosophy from day one

Sustainable gastronomy is much more than a trend; it is a commitment to the future that encompasses many sustainable practices. We are talking about being careful when selecting the origin of the ingredients we consume, being aware of how they are grown and the impact they may have on the environment and people. At Nivia Born Boutique Hotel we have embraced this philosophy from the outset, opting for local island produce (km 0), in-season if possible and often organic. We work closely with local farmers and ranchers to bring you the freshest, most authentic flavours in our dishes, while at the same time boosting the local economy, encouraging responsible, local consumption and reducing our ecological footprint. We believe – as I am sure you do – that we must protect the natural resources that the planet generously provides. We also offer food that is free of fertilisers and pesticides and that does not harm the environment. This in turn contributes to the improvement of your well-being. You can have a look at our breakfast menu, our lunch menu and our daily menu. Is your mouth watering? Continue to explore our culinary proposal, which also underscores well-tended spaces in a relaxed atmosphere.

Tips for implementing it at home

Next 18th June is Sustainable Gastronomy Day and we at Nivia Born Boutique Hotel would like to join in this celebration by sharing a series of tips with you on how to continue being respectful to the environment and future generations:

-Examine the labels of the food you are going to buy. Preferably select those that are locally produced (minimising carbon footprint) and those that are grown without chemicals.

-Prioritise vegetables over animal products.

-Use water and products responsibly during cooking.

-Rediscover traditional recipes from grandma’s kitchen.

-Plan your shopping list and buy only what you really need.

-If you have to renew any of your appliances, choose the most energy-efficient ones.

-Reduce the use of plastic containers for food storage.
