At Nivia Born Boutique Hotel we love to connect with the essence of Mallorca, with its traditions and with its future. And that transformation is being led by talented, innovative and courageous women who have decided to make their own way in the world of art, music, design and culture. On International Women’s Day, we would like to pay tribute to some of the female artists who are making their mark on the island and beyond.
Ela Fidalgo: from the world of fashion to art without labels
Ela Fidalgo began her career in the world of fashion and left it all for art. Her talent led her to win the Fashion Talent award at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Madrid in 2016 and to be
a finalist at the Festival d’Hyeres in France. But the fashion industry, with its frenetic pace and obsession with fast consumption, did not suit her. She took refuge in painting and sewing, using recycled materials and exploring themes of identity, the body and vulnerability.
Her work Gordita, a textile sculpture created from her own body, was made with the help of young people with anxiety and depression, migrant women and other vulnerable groups. Her art is inspired by imperfection, the exploration of fears and the ability to heal through creativity. In her studio, Sala de Variedades, she continues to develop projects where fashion and art merge in a raw and honest narrative.
Maria Jaume: the most authentic voice of new Mallorcan music
At only 25 years old, Maria Jaume has managed to create her own space in the Mallorcan music scene. Winner of the Sona9 contest in 2019, her sound fuses folk, indie and the most intimate pop with sincere and unembellished lyrics. Her influences range from Julia Jacklin and Angel Olsen to Antònia Font, combining Mediterranean warmth with a unique lyrical sensibility.
On her latest album, Nostàlgia Airlines, Maria Jaume experiments with more electronic and urban sounds, demonstrating that music doesn’t have to be pigeonholed. Her collaboration with Bad Gyal’s sister Mushkaa on Màgia obscura is proof that the Mallorcan scene is more alive than ever and that female talent continues to break down barriers.
Tonia Fuster: designing light with a Mediterranean soul
From an early age, Tonia Fuster knew that her path lay in creation. Her childhood, surrounded by nature in Marratxí, awakened her curiosity for materials, volumes and textures. Although she began studying architecture, she soon discovered that her passion lay in product design.
Her work with lamps goes beyond aesthetics: each of her pieces is a tribute to Mallorcan tradition and craftsmanship. Modelled in ceramic, her collections evoke the light, the sea and the warmth of the Mediterranean. Her designs have won prizes in the Art Jove competition, and today they form part of exclusive spaces on the island.
Aina Losange: an artist who defies limits
Music, fashion and audiovisual production. Aina Losange is one of the most versatile creators on the Mallorcan scene. As a DJ and fashion designer, she has worked with artists such as Aitana, Marc Seguí and Belén Aguilera, as well as collaborating with brands such as Cortana and production companies such as Phoskifilms.
Her project Losange Concept is a laboratory of ideas where music, image and design merge to create sensory experiences. Her artistic approach is based on breaking the rules, mixing influences, and opting for a risky and avant-garde aesthetic.
Mallorca as an epicentre of female talent
Mallorca has always been a cultural hotbed, and these four women prove that creativity is still going strong on the island. At Nivia Born Boutique Hotel, we celebrate and support local talent, creating spaces where art, music and design can meet those visiting Palma in search of authentic experiences.
