The 24th of July is the date chosen for the start of one of the most important film events on the island: the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest. The 13th edition of the festival will run until 31 July and comes with an ambitious programme that includes 72 film screenings (63 feature films and 9 short films), 15 world premières, 34 national premières, 16 free concerts, talks and meetings on the audiovisual industry.
More than 200 people linked to the world of cinema will parade through the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest over the course of eight days. The national première of ‘Quest’, by Mallorcan Antonina Obrador, will open this year’s edition. One day later, on 25 July, La Misericordia will host the presentation of the Masters of Cinema Award, which will go to the Norwegian actress Liv Ullmann, Ingmar Bergman’s muse, who will also present a documentary. On the 29th and 30th, the French Irène Jacob will also receive an award in recognition of her work. The closing gala will take place on 30 July. After the Jury, Critics’ and Audience Awards, the screening will take place of ‘Creatura’, a feature film written and directed by Elena Martín Gimeno and Clara Roquet.
The Official Section of the Atlàntida Film Fest 2023, made up of 24 feature films, includes titles such as ‘Las chicas están bien’, by Itsaso Arana; ‘Notas sobre un verano’, by Diego Llorente; ‘Beach house’, by Héctor Hernández or ‘Operación Brooklyn’, by Adolfo Moreno. The jury will include familiar faces such as Vicky Luengo, Carlos Cuevas and Omar Ayuso. In the National Official Selection, Sergi Caballero, Susy Gómez and Pep Girbent will sit on the panel.
Several directors will choose Palma to present their premières. Thus, among the most striking premières are ‘Passages’, by Ira Sachs; the documentary ‘Fantastic Machine’, directed by Axel Danielson and Maximilien van Aertryck and produced by Ruben Östlund; ‘Smoke Sauna Sisterhood’, by Anna Hints; ‘En el Adamant’, by Nicolas Philibert; ‘Kokomo City’ or ‘Reality’, by Tina Satter, among others. These films will compete for the Audience Award.
The 13th edition of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest will pay tribute to Terenci Moix with the world premiere of ‘Terenci Moix. La fábula infinita’, with the participation of Boris Izaguirre. Michelangelo Antonioni will also be honoured. In parallel to all these events, the AMFF will be putting on a musical line-up in emblematic venues such as La Misericordia and Ses Voltes.
