The Mediterranean’s most emblematic regatta has returned to Palma for another edition. Between 29th July and 5th August, more than 100 teams of 16 nationalities and from three continents – America, Oceania and Europe – will be putting their skills to the test at the MAPFRE King’s Cup 2023, which will take place in Palma Bay. For several days, the city will become the sailing capital of the world, with Real Club Náutico de Palma (RCNP) acting as its principal host.
A total of nine classes – the same number as the previous edition – will be competing in the 41st edition of the MAPFRE King’s Cup: Majorica ORC 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4, ClubSwan 50, ClubSwan 42, Herbalife J70 and the Mallorca Sotheby’s Women’s Cup, which will be sailing in J80.
The first two days of the event will be taken up with registration, entry and measuring procedures. The actual competition will take place from 31st July until Saturday, 5th August. The starting time for all the regattas is 12 noon, apart from Herbalife J70 and the Mallorca Sotheby’s Women’s Cup. Trials for these classes will start on Tuesday, 1st August, following a training race that will be held on the previous Monday.
The programme for the MAPFRE King’s Cup 2023 includes social events that will further add to the enjoyment of one of the greatest sports events held on the island. In addition to music and a number of tasting sessions, the traditional Shipowners’ Cocktail Reception by MAPFRE will be held on Thursday, 3rd August at RCNP. The Ses Voltes venue, at the foot of the Cathedral, will host the prize ceremony on Saturday, 5th August, from 9 p.m. onwards.
