After the Copa del Rey MAPFRE 2023 it is time for another great sailing festival: the XXVIII Illes Balears Clàssics. From the 17th to the 20th of August, the Club de Mar Mallorca will host this competition of historic boats, which will sail the waters of the Bay of Palma under the watchful eye of nautical enthusiasts, who will have the chance to view some great examples of seafaring tradition and naval culture.
The first day (17th August) will be reserved for registration, while from the 18th to the 20th the regatta will reach cruising speed before giving way to the trophy presentation, scheduled for the last day. You can experience a tribute to classic sailing and the liveliest atmosphere from the start on the pontoons of the Club de Mar Mallorca, which will organise various social activities around this great event.
The organisers have set four categories for the competition: Vintage Boats (pre-1950), Classic Boats (pre-1975), Tall Ships and Spirit of Tradition (modern construction and classic style). A fifth division (Presencia) will offer the chance for boats over 50 years old to be included in the event, even without competing.
With nearly 30 years of history and as a highlight of the international sailing circuit, this regatta – the first in its category to receive the United Nations ‘Carbon Neutral’ certification – arrives in the middle of the high season on the island and will offer you much more than just a sporting event.
