On this day, which commemorates the entry into force of the Statute of Autonomy in 1983, the centre of Palma (mainly the area of Passeig Sagrera, Antoni Maura and the Plaça de Sa Drassana) sees the morning dawn crowded with craft stalls, with gastronomic products, basketry, fabrics, footwear, clay articles, costume jewellery, etc., which reflect the essence of the island and which year after year attract a large number of people.
Very close to the master craftsmen, who are together with booksellers in some parts of the city such as S’Hort del Rei, in the Parc de Sa Feixina is the location of the traditional Mostra de Cuina de les Illes Balears. On the 1st of March and the days leading up to it, numerous stands serve the most typical dishes from the cuisine of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera in the midst of a festive atmosphere with show cooking, master cooking classes, music and activities for the little ones. But the Day of the Balearic Islands encompasses much more.
