In one way or another, Mallorca has always been linked to cinema. Not only as a refuge for great Hollywood stars – remember Ava Gardner or John Wayne passing through the island – or as a location for many national and international productions, but also as the setting for some of the most renowned independent film festivals. This is the case of the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival (EMIFF), which returns for another year with 147 films from 25 countries and no less than 80 premieres.
From 18 to 24 October, the twelfth edition of the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival will bring an interesting programme full of screenings, workshops, conferences and professional meetings, as well as activities for all ages. Want one more reason not to miss it? It is the only Spanish film festival chosen among the 50 festivals worth visiting in 2023, according to the prestigious American magazine ‘MovieMaker’.
Isabel Coixet, one of Spain’s most renowned directors, famous for films such as “Mi vida sin mí” and “La vida secreta de las palabras”, will be responsible for opening the most historic festival in Palma. Before her film “Un amor” is screened at the opening gala, the director will receive the Evolution VISION award, which praises her ability to inspire audiences and cross borders. Following her appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival, filmmaker Lone Scherfig will close the event on 24 October with her most recent film: “The Movie Teller”. EMIFF 2023 will also present awards to Danish screenwriter and film director Susanne Bier, Catalan actor Daniel Brühl and cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt.
