On 23rd April, the written word will once again take centre stage. One of the most extraordinary days is now upon us with the celebration of Sant Jordi 2024, an unmissable event for lovers of literature. On this day, Palma throws its heart and soul into this art form in many ways, as the city centre streets are packed full of book stalls and authors of all genres. This year, there are expected to be 30 stalls in Plaça de Cort, Plaça Major, Carrer Sant Miquel, la Rambla, Via Roma and Blanquerna.
Books and, of course, roses will be present in the city’s most central locations on a day when the people of Palma take to the streets in search of new titles, some of them with the aim of chatting, albeit briefly, with their favourite writers.
Thus, from 9:30 am to 9:00 pm, several bookshops have scheduled numerous book presentations, traditional book signings, etc. There will also be reading clubs, literary vermouths, guided tours through Palma’s historic libraries, sensory exploration workshops for children, a Sant Jordi rose workshop, a bookmark workshop, a display of Sant Jordi legends, and various talks. A party full of life
Several musical groups will liven up the afternoon of Sant Jordi from 5:00 pm onwards. A parade of Estupendos Burruños, with a brass band and percussion, will take the party to the stalls. For its part, Stromboli Events will bring to the characters to life with a performance of Sant Jordi and the Rose, while Qmiras Producciones will present for the first time an animation (“Escriu la teva història” in English “Write your story”), with a living book as the main character.
