What to do in Mallorca in the rain: 5 plans to ride out the bad weather

In spring, Mallorca is resplendent. Even when grey clouds cover the sky, the island still offers a variety of fascinating experiences. If you’re wondering what to do on a rainy day (and be warned, it has its own special attraction), at Nivia Born Boutique Hotel we bring you five cultural and indoor plans with which you can fully enjoy the destination and forget about the bad weather.

Visits to museums and art galleries

How about a day of cultural immersion in Palma’s museums and galleries? Explore Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani, where you’ll find an impressive collection of works by local and international artists. You can also visit the Fundació Miró Mallorca, dedicated to the iconic Spanish surrealist artist, and marvel at his innovative creations, or browse Palma’s best galleries in search of emerging talent.  The Museu Fundación Juan March will also surprise you with its impressive collection of 20th century Spanish art.

Finger-licking routes

What if you choose a gastronomic route to delight your senses? Palma is full of charming cafés, restaurants, and bodegas where you can get to savour exquisite local delicacies. From the classic variat mallorquí to Mediterranean haute cuisine, there is something for everyone. Venture out to discover the flavours of signature cuisine with this selection of Michelin-starred restaurants.

Visit the Mercat de l’Olivar and learn about Mallorcan cuisine

Every Wednesday and Thursday morning, visits are organized to the traditional Mercat de l’Olivar where stalls selling the best fruit, vegetables, meat and the freshest fish and seafood will whet your appetite. Don’t worry, at the end of the tour you will take part in a practical cooking workshop in which you will prepare a Mallorcan menu that you will be able to taste once you have finished. Do you want to repeat this experience? We suggest other interesting markets to lose yourself in.

Shopping

Shopping becomes an excellent way to get out of the rain. You can go to a large shopping centre, such as Fan Mallorca, Mallorca Fashion Outlet or Porto Pi Shopping Centre, or you can buy a garment from the most prestigious brands in the boutiques that dot the emblematic Paseo del Born. Explore the depths

If you’ve had to put off outdoor activities, we recommend a trip to the depths. The Cuevas del Drach, in Porto Cristo, will submerge you 25 metres underground and will amaze you with the jewels hoarded inside (it has one of the largest underground lakes in the world). A little further north, the Cuevas de Artà will also amaze you with a film-like underground landscape.
