With temperatures hovering around 25 degrees Celsius, is anyone in any doubt that spring is here? A warm welcome to the most pleasant season of the year which, in Palma, means bright sunshine illuminating the cobbled city centre streets, refreshing sea breezes filtering through the windows and an extra dose of energy that encourages you to explore every corner of the city, discovering its secrets. Let’s go!
One of the best ways to appreciate Palma’s charm in spring is by taking a relaxing stroll through its historic quarter, with its little treasures dotted all around – such as its stately courtyards – that will undoubtedly catch your eye. From the emblematic Paseo del Born, two minutes’ walk from our accommodation, to the beautiful gardens of S’Hort del Rei, guarded by the Royal Palace of the Almudaina, passing by the majestic Cathedral of Mallorca, the unique Lonja de Palma – a magnificent reference of civil Gothic architecture on the island – or the remains of the old medieval walls (the Baluard des Príncep, Dalt Murada, Ses Voltes or the Baluard de Sant Pere). If you like to explore fortresses with a lot of history to tell, we recommend a visit to the magnificent Bellver Castle, which offers the best panoramic views of the city.
Without wandering too far from the centre, you can walk or cycle around part of the bay of Palma, passing through other places of interest such as the Parc de la Mar or the Portitxol, a truly authentic spot that preserves traces of its fishing past and where we would recommend a visit to any of its restaurants and/or cafés.
Do you want to set aside some time for shopping? Take note. In the heart of the city there are numerous historic establishments offering local produce. Not forgetting the prestigious shops and boutiques scattered throughout the so-called Palma’s Golden Mile. Would you prefer to cultivate your passion for art? Sign up for this route around the most prestigious art galleries.
Events you cannot miss
Spring also brings with it cultural events that encourage the enjoyment of outdoor leisure activities. The Art Palma Brunch fills the exhibition spaces with curious onlookers eager to discover new artistic proposals, the Palma On Season Fest makes people dance to the rhythm of popular artists from the Spanish music scene, while the Orfeó Balear continues to pay homage to the great classics before the astonished gaze of a demanding audience.
