If you’re looking for plans to avoid Christmas burnout before this magical time of year begins, Nivia Born Boutique Hotel offers you a stroll through fashion and cinema with CaixaForum Palma. Until 7 January, you can visit Cine y moda, por Jean Paul Gaultier at the Plaza Weyler, less than five minutes from our accommodation. In just a few moments you will appreciate the creative interchange that takes place between the two industries. Pure fantasy.
Cine y moda presents up to 57 iconic film looks by the well-known French couturier that will provide you with information about their respective social contexts. From the dress worn by Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, to the one worn by Marilyn Monroe in All About Eva or Catherine Deneuve in 8 mujeres, to the corset worn by Madonna on her 1990 Blond Ambition World Tour or the chain mail dress worn by Ingrid Bergman in Joan of Arc. As a novelty, the Yvonne Blake design that actress Ángela Molina wore for the film Bearn or the Doll’s Room, based on the novel by Llorenç Villalonga, set in Mallorca, will be exhibited for the first time in Palma.
The exhibition also includes haute couture designs by Coco Chanel, Pierre Cardin, Paco Rabanne, Balenciaga and Sybilla, among others. And to top it all off, Gaultier delves into a fantasy universe with the Superman costumes worn by Christopher Reeve, the Zorro mask with Antonio Banderas and the shorts worn by Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky. The designer was also involved in Victoria Abril’s wardrobe in Kika, Bad Education and The Fifth Element, also present. For the exhibition, Gaultier also paid tribute to figures who have been a reference for him such as Pedro Almodóvar, Rossy de Palma, Sara Montiel, Balenciaga, Paco Rabanne and even Don Quixote.
Don’t miss an eclectic journey through cinema and fashion, with great creators and artists, guided by an ‘enfant terrible’ who never leaves anybody unmoved.
