The Mercat de Santa Catalina, which is located in the neighbourhood of the same name and is the oldest in the city, is a faithful reflection of the neighbourhood’s cosmopolitan atmosphere. From its bustling walkways, you can see both locals doing their daily shopping and visitors enjoying an informal meal in one of its lively bars. Fresh fish and seafood are one of its specialities – its proximity to the port is a key – but it also offers high quality meats, sausages, cheeses, fruits, wines, coffees, teas, etc.
Without leaving the city centre, the Mercat de l’Olivar has been one of the most emblematic in Ciutat de Gràcia since 1951. Amidst a vibrant atmosphere, local vendors share with customers their passion for fresh produce (meat and fish), local fruit and vegetables and exquisite cheeses, cured meats, liqueurs, wines, spices, nuts and dried fruits, etc. At l’Olivar you will also find stalls of prepared food as well as restaurants and cafés with a wide range of gastronomic offerings.
The Pere Garau Municipal Market is another of Palma’s oldest and most popular markets. Multiculturalism is present in each and every one of its corners. In 1943, it began its activity as a food market. Since then, it has been offering its customers local and seasonal products. In addition, you can buy second-hand clothes and accessories and even animals at the outdoor stalls.
Some of the island’s farmers come every week to Palma’ s organic market, which is set up in Plaça del Bisbe Berenguer de Palou (Plaça dels Patins) every Tuesday and Saturday morning. It is the only market with exclusively direct sales, so everything you buy there comes directly from the field into your basket.
